The Mission Park Association was established in 1857 by Mark Hopkins (1802-1887), Albert Hopkins (1807-1872) and Charles Stoddard (1802-1872) to "improve the grounds situate in Williamstown known as the Mission Park, and [to] erect and place thereon suitable monuments and other memorials to commemorate the origins and progess of American Missions."
